Disable ‘Search’ Completion (complitly)

Last week I noticed something fishy on my computer. Every time I try to search on Google (I am using Firefox), it would show me something called Search Completion results rather than Google. I tried to find solution but could not find the right one. Having spent hours searching net and doing my own tests I found the solution.

So if you are using Firefox and you are having same problem which I had, here is the solution.

Open Firefox

Address bar type about:config

Click I’ll be careful, i promise

Filter bar: type keyword.url

Check value, if it different, change it to http://www.google.com/search?q=

Also make sure following values set to Google

  • browser.search.defaultengine;Google
  • browser.search.defaultenginename;Google
  • browser.search.order.1;Google
  • browser.search.selectedEngine;Google

That is it. You are set to use Google engine again. I do not know how did it happen on my computer, but it is over. Hope it solve your problem.

Thanks for your help on this! I somehow picked up the Complitly malware, probably in a drive-by download somewhere. I also rooted out the Complitly files in my Windows folder.

Is there any way to remove the Complitly selection from the drop-down in the Google search bar on the upper-right of Firefox? That is the only thing remaining of the Complitly crap in my browser.
